Everybody hates,
For the virtue they keep,
Is misguided,
They see difference as sin,
And in you,
You are different,
Love yourself for what they hate
about society,
and cleave to no action,
that is guided by their hands,
For those who do not understand...
Prosecute
And those who understand...
Although do not necessarily agree,
Accept,
For a person is more than sexuality,
More than a socio-political view
Of black and white,
We see colour for a reason,
For beauty,
For love,
Those who do not love,
Accept not beauty,
For
In your world,
Like you and I
We do…

Author's Comments

This is actually a poem in response to one a good friend of mine submitted a while ago,
i just added to it a bit... gave it some more substance. It is about sexual preferences in our societies, and how we accept or reject the people behind the preference.
Are we really as accepting as we beleive?

Oh, I love this! I've been thinking a lot about how much we value aesthetics in our society these days, and how it just brings down our self-esteem and makes us obsessed about our appearences. It annoys me to no end. But yes, I really, really like this one.

yeah, i forgot i had written it till today, and then just thought id submit it as a one off sort of thing. Im a complete un-conventionalist in society not in the usual sense of the word though, i dont condone homosexuality but i wont judge the person for their choices. A person is a person, not a sexual preference

I completely agree. I hate how people expect you to act a certain way because you're into people of the same sex. I don't know, being gay is apparently the "in" thing these days but at the same time, so many people seem to hate it. In my city right now, there is such a big argument over gays vs. religion and such, and the fact that my city is full of hics doesn't help things. My view is discrimination is discrimination, whether it be age or race, sex or sexuality.

Anyways, I'm glad you posted :)

Yeah. I wish poems like this were published more often, put in newspapers and magazines for everyone to read and really look at themselves.
